2015 Gibson Les Paul Special Double Cut Review

  • Some fraudsters have compromised TGP accounts have in the past few days. They have scammed members in the Emporiums by creating ads with stolen photos and requesting Paypal F&F or Venmo exclusively for payment.

Nosotros accept these problems seriously. We've fabricated security changes that I don't want to detail here to finish them. However, the all-time way to prevent this is for members to exercise proper password hygiene (which I'll item below), turn on two-cistron authentication, and -- I implore every single person hither -- simply apply payment methods that have buyer protection. Unfortunately, we cannot command how members do deals. It is heartbreaking to see that the lure of saving some money will still fool people into using those methods to salvage a few dollars. In today's world, that is false confidence you can no longer beget.

Every account that I've restored so far to the original owner was using compromised passwords. Talking to 1 fellow member as I am working through getting his account back in order, he informed me that his Apple tree password manager had been compromised and made available on the dark web.

None of the accounts compromised were using ii-factor hallmark.

We have forced electronic mail revalidation for all members that take not signed on for a while. We highly recommend every member reading this alter their passwords as a precaution. We want to highly recommend that members turn on and use TGP's 2-factor authentication option.

We have opened a discussion thread in the Pub department discussing this.We will include a very detailed password checklist.

One morning before this calendar week, I awoke to find an email from Sam Ash advertising deep discounts on some of the 2015 models. I've been mostly a Fender guy for a long time but I was starting to go a Gibson itch. I take a Gibson Blueshawk merely that'due south probably closer to a Fender than a typical Gibson; and an Epiphone Flamekat that'due south closer to a Gibson but it's not, if only nominally.

At $579 (plus a $20 coupon for registering online - $608.28 + HSC "out the door") the Les Paul Special was too hard to resist, even if I couldn't play it in person. I placed the lodge that morning before work and opted to selection it upwards at a Sam Ash most my job. Although I thought it was existence shipped, information technology was actually in stock at that location then by lunchtime I was picking it up. Online impulse buy followed by instant gratification. Score! I had possession of a brand new 2015 Gibson.

Nevertheless, I almost left it at the store. The sales banana brought me the guitar but had trouble showing me how the G-Force tuning worked. After about 10 minutes (maybe it wasn't that long, just it seemed longer) he was able to become it shut. It ever went back to open up G, no affair what buttons he pushed. Finally I think he actually read the instructions and reset it to standard tuning although the loftier e wouldn't tune and I stock-still it manually. In the salesperson's defence force it turned out the battery was almost dead causing information technology to role erratically. Once i got information technology home and charged up the G Force behaved as expected. However I am still having tuning stability issues although it seems the more I play the more stable it becomes.

I'g going to give them an honest try before i give up on them. The strings on the guitar don't wait former - in fact I thought they might be new - only maybe they need changing. I'll try a string change this weekend and meet what happens.

This is my first guitar with P90s, although the Blues 90s, or whatever they are, in the Blueshawk are close. In any event I really like the tones. At first things sounded a scrap pinched or nasally but I was able to somewhen dial it out and become a fuller sound. The three position switch provides a variety of tones I liked then much I kept playing fifty-fifty though it seemed similar I was tuning every 10 minutes.

The finish and the build quality are very good to my heart. The grain is very pronounced and I cant find any seams anywhere. Information technology has a dainty glossy end without being too thick although the "cease is killing my tone" oversupply might not be pleased. The span seems like information technology might exist a weak link simply the rosewood fingerboard and binding look astonishing. I'thousand not sure if figuring on the fingerboard is desirable or non (probably not) merely the variation in color looks very cool to me. Nice to take mother of pearl dots and the neck looks like it'southward gear up pretty well.

Also, the action is high at the 12th fret and the span seems to be sitting upwards pretty high off the torso. When I modify the strings I'll attempt to lower the span also. The action seems good at the 1st position and so I'll try leaving the nut alone. This is my first wraparound span of this kind so nosotros'll see what happens with the intonation. It's pretty proficient now but I don't know what will happen when I lower the bridge.

The wide neck and finger board feel natural to me. I like to practice a lot of bends and vibrato and have no problems. I also find information technology easier for some chords with the boosted spacing. I tin see how the neck is considered slim but the wideness offsets the depth so it feels similar a medium sized neck, at least to my average size hands.

Overall, I like the guitar a lot. The tuners, nut, and span may accept to be inverse only I'm in no rush and unlike some who say ditch the tuners immediately, I think the biggest consequence may be the nut, which might be why Gibson has been so quick to hand out replacements. Hopefully they're still doing that. Just despite the shortcomings, it'south a fun guitar, which is shut enough for rock and scroll and will but get better with a few modest improvements.

Congrats, and enjoy. I was able to get a new nut last calendar week from them in a few days. All I had to do was submit a course online

That is a prissy example......beloved the wood grain and color of it. I as well caused one of their 2015's, the Sea Blue Trad, and replaced the strings with x's. Equally the strings settle in tuning stability improves and is no worse than any other string change vis a vis tuning. BTW, irresolute strings is pretty easy and convenient using the GForce. Download the GForce Manual and follow the instructions on Folio fifteen for calibrating the tuner after replacing strings, particularly if y'all're changing the gauge. :aok

The 2015's took a beating here and in other forums but I'g very happy with the two models I have (Classic and Trad).

HNGD!!

You can whorl your optics and at total price or even street price you would be justified. But for $600 I recollect I got my money'southward worth. The span and tuners are about $100. The nut is gratis and doesn't need to be cutting. $700 in and i have a very dainty Les Paul Special regardless of year.

Thanks for the comments. Let me direct your attention to the span acme for a moment. Notice in the movie of the span above, how high it's sitting above the body? Should this more often than not be flush with the body or shut to it? I'g just not familiar with how this bridge should exist set up.

Hey, i have ane of these... my variations in the fingerboard are actually actually quite pleasing to look at. I realize the darker the board the amend for near (and i have some damn dark rosewood boards) but something about this one suits this guitar really nicely.
I accept replaced the tuners, bong encompass, pickups, wiring and pots, bridge and posts, pickup seletor, output jack and the nut to titanium. I even so need to change the headstock veneer at some betoken. information technology'due south been my favorite project to appointment and I'll somewhen go pictures up when i'chiliad done. I really love the sound and playability of this guitar now.

Tonight I spent a couple of hours with the guitar, cleaning it, irresolute strings, making adjustments, and I'thou even happier with it. The bridge was sitting up really high so the action at the 12th fret was nearly twice as high every bit information technology should have been. I likewise lowered the pickups and adjusted the bridge for intonation, using the 2nd and 5th strings. The thing plays so much easier and is really resonant.

The tuners seem to exist working better with fresh strings. I even tried going back and forth between standard and open G tuning and it worked quite well and came back to standard tuning pretty hands. Considering how well the guitar is playing, I'k seriously thinking I might just keep this guitar stock after all. If this was my but guitar, I would definitely put standard tuners on it, but I retrieve it'southward kind of cool to take i in the stable that's a little dissimilar from the rest.

If y'all bought that guitar new, Gibson should withal ship y'all a costless replacement Titanium Zero Fret Nut if your guitar came with the Brass Zero Nut. At some point subsequently the discovery that the brass nil basics were severely "slotting" with just string motility from tuning inside 3 to 4 weeks of ownership, they began shipping with the Titanium Nix Fret and replacing the brass one for anyone who called in - also at that time Gibson wanted owners to phone call them for the replacement, not the store dealer. I did that on a '15 SG Special and they FedEx'd information technology to me overnight. My feel with the GForce was not good however, after a calendar month information technology had a total brain cook down and was pulling every string but the high Due east a full pace sharp - It would not exercise a factory re-set up, so recalibrating was useless. Gibson replaced the entire GForce unit as well. However by and so I had surrendered to a ready of Klusons for some analog tuning. I was disappointed since information technology did work very well for four weeks going from Standard to Open K, D or East, I thought I had a solution to not having to take pre-open tuned additional guitars to gigs... Hopefully you got a good one; when they work, it'south amazing.

I tried these and my smaller hands couldn't get on with the broad cervix, wish that wasn't so, hell of a deal for a Gibby with a real case. Play it like yous stole it!

I requested the titanium nut from Gibson. I'k probably stating the obvious but did you charge the bombardment? When I got my guitar the battery was very run downward and the unit behaved very erratically until I charged information technology upwards.

If this was my merely guitar, I would definitely put standard tuners on it, but I think it's kind of absurd to have one in the stable that's a little different from the residue.

My thoughts exactly!
